Tips on installing a wood fencing in Austin TX

Dec 12

These days, wood fencing is the most common type of fencing. Most people choose this kind of fencing because it's almost low maintenance and durable compared to other materials.

It can last a lifetime if you know how to install a wood fence correctly. If you want to make your old wooden fence or planning for a new one, here are some steps on How to Install Wood Fencing:

  1. Make sure you have all the tools that will be needed, such as shovels, hammers, nails, and screws, etc.
  2. Measure the area where you will install the fence, then mark out the location where you want each post hole dug along both sides of the perimeter. The posts should be placed at least 6 feet apart from each other, and the bottom of each post must be at least 6 inches below ground.
  3. Dig a hole in the marked location big enough to fit two-thirds of the fence post and deep enough that the fence post will stand tall with about 4 inches of space from top to bottom.
  4. Pour gravel into the hole until it is filled about 2/3 full, then add water, mix around, then pour out any excess water leaving just enough water for settling purposes.
  5. Insert the fence posts into the holes one by one while making sure they are straight up and down until they are about 1 inch below the rim of where you want them to stop. Use your leveler if necessary to make them perfectly straight, or use an electric drill with a screwdriver bit to attach the fence post to the wooden brace.
  6. If you are using a premade fence panel, attach it to the posts now by screwing or nailing it into place. If you are making your own fence panels, do this after all the posts have been set in place.
  7. Finally, add dirt back into the hole and tamp it down so that the post is firmly in place and your fencing is good to go!

If you follow these simple steps, you will have a well-installed wood fence that will last for years to come! And if you ever need any help along the way, don't hesitate to call on an expert Austin fence contractor for assistance. They will be more than happy to help!
